Common Eye Problems and How We Solve Them

Many eye conditions can develop complications. That is why you must see your eye doctor for regular eye checks. Catching these eye problems early can lead to early treatment. Here are common eye problems and the ways to resolve them.

Eye Itchiness

This is a common eye problem. Dryness or an allergy attack may cause the urge to scratch your eyes. You may be reacting to pollen, dander, or a cosmetic product. Go to your eye doctor for proper treatment.

Your eye doctor may suggest over-the-counter or prescription allergy medications. These medications may be in the form of eye drops or ointments. You may need oral allergy medications if your eye itchiness occurs with other symptoms, such as a runny nose.

Eye Redness

Eye irritation happens when there is dryness, allergies, or dust. The body sends more blood to your eyes to fight the invaders or possible infections. The rush of blood makes the tiny blood vessels in your eyes swell up. That is why your eyes become red.

Getting rid of the redness is a priority. Over-the-counter eye drops can take care of this. It is ideal to avoid using the eyedrops as a habit. Becoming dependent on the eyedrops will create a rebound effect that will make your eyes redder. Using artificial tears is safer. It can make your eyes feel more comfortable while reducing redness.

Gooey or Crusting Eyes

This eye problem can happen because of debris, allergies, or infection. Your tears can dry up and turn into rough crystals on your eyelids. If the discharge is thicker, it may be mucus from allergies or pus from infections.

Treating the underlying condition that causes the discharge is a priority. Clearing your eyes of debris can stop your eyes from tearing and crusting up your eyes. Your eye doctor can prescribe antibiotic ointments or eye drops. If it is a viral infection, it will go away on its own in a few days.

Burning or Dry Eyes

You may have gritty or burning sensations. This feeling is the result of a certain change in your tear quality. A blockage in the glands around your eyes will prevent your tears from staying long enough to lubricate your eyes. As you grow older, your tear quality changes. Your tear glands may no longer produce enough fluids. This can lead to dry eye syndrome.

Dry eyes can also occur when you use your electronic gadgets for many hours. This activity often delays blinking. Your tears evaporate right away when you do not blink often enough. It prevents your tears from replenishing.

Placing a warm compress on your eyes for five minutes, two times a day, can unclog your oil glands. You can also use artificial tears. Doing so can stimulate more tear production. Your eye doctor can also recommend tear duct plugs to prevent your eyes from drying up.
